Tagoo

Tagoo is a unique search engine that specializes in search of media-content: audio and video files. It distinguishes more than 50 extension of music and video. Tagoo is constantly in development. You'll have to sign up to build playlists, but registration takes all of 5 seconds and the playlist feature is ridiculously cool. Add tracks to different playlists, and then view your lists to stream them or download the M3U. It's even nice enough to warn you about potentially slow download sites, marking them with a red dot.

FormatFactory

A handy all-in-one utility for taking one kind of audio, video, or picture file and converting it to another. The interface is a dead-simple drag-and-drop affair, and it's meant for running batches of files through converters—FLVs to Windows Media, MPEGs to iPod-friendly video, DVDs to DivX files, etc. You won't get a lot of options for quality control, compression rate, or other tweaks, but for some folks, that's really a benefit. FormatFactory is a free download for Windows systems only.

Start Killer

Freeware application Start Killer hides the Start menu button, freeing up extra space on your Windows taskbar. You can still access the Start menu by hitting the Windows key, but Start Killer frees up a good chunk of taskbar real estate. You can optionally disable the Start menu altogether if you wanted to deny users access to it. Start Killer only does one thing, but there's nothing we like better than a simple tool that does exactly what it says.
